Kakheti

The heart of Georgian winemaking

They say a person resembles the land they come from. In Kakheti, it is the other way around — the land resembles its people.

Generous, abundant, and inexhaustible. Perhaps that is why Rkatsiteli and Saperavi emerged here — two different varieties, two distinct characters existing side by side. One, filled with sunlight and golden in color; the other, deep and blood-red.

Even the map of Kakheti is wine. Tsinandali. Manavi. Vazisubani. Mukuzani. Napareuli. Sometimes you forget whether you are saying the name of a place or a wine. Perhaps because here, one has never existed without the other.

You walk through a town — vines. You walk through a village — vines. You look into a man's eyes — and there are vines there too.

That is why, in this country, we all know: no matter where you set out from, no matter which way you turn — through misty mountains or along the high vineyards — in Georgia, the wine road will always lead you to Kakheti.
